The Monkey King: Quest for the Sutra (Chinese: 齊天大聖孫悟空) is a 2002 Hong Kong/Taiwanese TV series based on the novel Journey to the West. It is also a remake of the 90's TVB version. This is the second Monkey King that is portrayed by Dicky Cheung, the other one being Journey to the West I (1996). The Monkey King: Quest for the Sutra is a 1 minute starring Dicky Cheung as Monkey (Suen Ng Hong), Eric Kot as Piggy (Ju Bat Gwai) and Sam Lee as Sandy (Sha Jang). The series premiered on Wed Jul 10, 2002 on TVB and Episode 40 (S01E40) last aired on Thu Jan 01, 1970.

But when I saw the poster hanging on the walls of the video store, I became skeptical. Oh I totally LOVE this series dicky hands down plays the best moneky king ever. haha I luv jimmy and gillian romance in this series. But i wish it could have been longer. Actually jimmy was my favorite character in this series aside from dicky of course. Thats just probably because I love jimmy lin way too much.

this series is really good..i loved it~~ it could hav been flawless if charlene wasnt such a terrible actress!! i wished dicky and kristy could end up together though. charlene's fake cuteness and perkiness got really annoying. when i was watching her scenes, i was like 'oh, p-lease' >.<'

Charlene was a terrible actress. She definitely tried to pull a 'Ruby Lin' and failed miserably. She's so fake at being cute and playful. And she's bone thin so they need to stop giving her skimpy outfits. Gillian was much better. I feel like her relationship with Jimmy Lin should have been played out more.
And although it was really really entertaining, the Monkey was definitely not in character. Buddhism wasn't even that big a part in this series when it was supposed to be the main thing. And the special effects made me want to hit myself.
